Polk Police investigate a Fatal Pedestrian Accident
According to Tampa Bay News the Polk County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an auto accident involving a motorcycle and a pedestrian. The auto accident occurred just before 8a.m. Sunday in Winter Haven.
Patrick Keith Polk was riding a motorcycle in Winter Haven when he left the roadway and struck a pedestrian, William George Scott, was just leaving the mobile home park where he lived when the motorcycle accident happened.
Scott, 65, was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.
Polk, 36, was airlifted to Lakeland Regional Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition.
For the first time in five years, fatal pedestrian accidents increased in 2010, according to a report published by the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA). In the first six months of 2010, fatal auto accidents across the country decreased but during the same time period fatal pedestrian accidents increased by 0.4%. According to the report, Florida ranked second for highest individual increase in pedestrian fatalities.
