Recall Roundup: October 2019
As the lights go down, you sit at the edge of your seat, watching as the horror movie’s protagonist creeps slowly through a dark house. She’s headed for the kitchen, where something seems to be lurking behind the door. With wide eyes, she reaches out a shaking hand to open the door and face her gruesome fate.
But it’s not a masked killer, a zombie, or a ghoulish monster. It’s . . . a recalled bag of tortilla chips?!
If this was the plot of a real horror film, you’d probably shake your head in disappointment over this strange “twist.” However, it’s true that product recalls pose a very real danger—more real than mummies, vampires, and other Halloween horrors! Hundreds of people are injured every year by dangerous and defective products, according to the United States Consumer Safety Commission. Any product, from fireworks to vehicles to even the everyday foods in your kitchen, can pose threats if they are negligently made or improperly used.
But there’s no need to be very, very afraid! With our October 2019 edition of Recall Roundup, we’re here to see you through this month’s list of recalled products.
Tricks of Treats?
While October is all about Halloween frights, food also plays a big role! From trick-of-treating candy stashes to warm soups as the weather begins to cool down, there are so many sweet and savory things to enjoy throughout the month. But before you prepare your next Halloween treat, check your kitchen for these recently recalled items:
- Mical Seafood tuna
- Schwan’s garlic herb shrimp
- UNFI marinated olives and feta in oil
- Premium Foods fish products
- J.M Smucker Company all-purpose flour
- Cornerstone Premium Foods frozen blackberries
- King Arthur Flour all-purpose flour
What Lurks in the Garage?
Vehicle recalls are another particularly spooky issue. In the car, you are relying on features like airbags and brakes to keep you safe in the event of an accident caused by an irresponsible driver. When someone goes wrong with your car, motorcycle, or other vehicle, it can lead to dangers for even the most responsible drivers.
Some of the brands that issue vehicle recalls this month include:
- Outdoor RV Manufacturing
- Starcraft RV
- Pleasure Way
- Forest River
- Cruiser RV
This Halloween, don’t forget to check your home or car while looking for ghosts and zombies! A slasher film or a haunted house might lead to temporary fear, but an injury or illness from a defective product can leading to lasting complications.
