Recall Roundup: November 2018

Welcome to the November 2018 Recall Roundup!

From the turkey and mashed potatoes for our Thanksgiving feasts to the toys and electronics on our Black Friday shopping lists, products play a big role in our lives throughout November and the start of the winter holiday season. But thanks to our desires for hearty food on the table and gifts under the tree, a recall on a dangerous or defective product during the holiday season can mean chaos! As we all ease out of our Thanksgiving “food comas” and into the busy holiday season, we’re here with our latest Recall Roundup to keep you updated on recent recalls and dangerous products.

Bad News for Salad Fans

One of the biggest events of November 2018 concerns a familiar foe: lettuce. A few days before Thanksgiving, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a recall on all romaine lettuce. This was due to an outbreak of E. coli, a bacterium that can lead to vomiting, diarrhea, and other unpleasant symptoms. So far, there have been 32 cases of reported illnesses across 11 states, including 13 that required hospitalization.  Unlike a similar E. coli outbreak that occurred last spring, this recent outbreak has not been linked to any specific manufacturer or growing areas. As a result, there hasn’t been a full recall issued on any certain brands.

Along with romaine lettuce, some other foods that saw recalls in November include:

While recalls and food safety warnings are annoying at best and scary at worst, we can at least be thankful that none of our classic Thanksgiving favorites made any recall lists!

Finally, if you’re thinking about buying a car, motorcycle, or other vehicle for yourself or a special someone, some brands to currently avoid include Kia, Ducati, Thor, Jayco, and Subaru.

During the holidays, a recall is the last thing anyone wants to think about! However, it’s important to be aware of dangerous products that could be lurking on your table or under the tree. To stay safe during the holidays, be sure to stay tuned for our next edition of Recall Roundup!
