Recall Roundup: March 2019
As the saying goes, March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb. But for people who found themselves faced with a defective or dangerous product, this month might have been anything but gentle and sweet.
Is a recalled product lurking in your home? Find out with the March 2019 edition of Recall Roundup!
As we moved away from sudden cold snaps and toward summer sunshine, many Floridians might have through about braving the pollen and heading out for a picnic at a local park or beach this month. If this was you, hopefully you didn’t bring along any of these recalled food products:
- Congra Brands Chef Boyardee rice with chicken and vegetables, due to an undeclared allergen
- McDaniel Life-Line bottled water, due to a contamination from pseudomonas aeruginosa, a bacterium that can cause serious illness in humans and animals
- Joy Gourmet Foods chutneys and pastes, due to an undeclared allergen
- UTZ Quality Foods Bachman Twist pretzels, due to an undeclared allergen
- Sahlen ready-to-eat meat products, due to concerns over foreign materials in the product
- Better Made Snack Foods potato chips, due to an undeclared allergen
Stay Alert Before Hitting the Road
For others, springtime is more about open roads than picnic baskets! If you’re packing for a spring break trip or planning ahead for a summer adventure, be aware of recent vehicle recalls. Vehicle defects like airbags, improperly mounted tire carriers, and fuel leaks can put a dangerous damper on a fun trip. In March 2019, some vehicle brands to watch out for include:
- Forest River
- Range Rover
As you can see from the above list, a wide range of vehicles can be impacted by a recall, so always be alert and keep an eye out for recent news.
One particularly dangerous recall that occurred in March 2019 was over a gun safe, manufactured by Alpha Guardian. The safes, which are meant to safely store guns when they are not in use, can open without a lock or key due to a bolt malfunction. This means that anyone, including small children, could open the safe and access the guns, leading to serious injuries or an accidental tragedy. Luckily, no injuries have been reported, and the company is doing the right thing by immediately addressing the issue.
