Read and Play 2017 Was A Success!
Over the summer, there are three very important things we want all Pinellas County students to remember:
- Keep learning!
- Get plenty of exercise and fresh air!
- Stay safe!
Through our annual Read and Play Project, we help local students accomplish all three of these things!
Read and Play!
The purpose is to make sure that all kids have a book to read and a ball to play with over the summer. The book keeps their mind fresh and the ball ensures that they’ll be playing outdoors. To make sure this happens, we donate books and balls to a local school.
This year, we went to Ponce de Leon Elementary in Clearwater, where we met a few classes of awesome third graders! We brought a variety of early chapter books, from thrilling Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles books to adorable stories about horses and bunnies. Plus, we even had some classic books to hand out, like The Hardy Boys and abridged versions of novels like Pride and Prejudice. For the balls, we had vibrant soccer balls, bouncy basketballs, and even a few decorated with smiley faces. As we set up the balls and books in the cafeteria, the students were clearly curious and excited.
Promoting Summertime Safety
But first, they learned about summer safety from our attorneys. Matthew Noyes talked about car safety, highlighting the importance of seatbelts and staying in the backseat. Lorraine Robinson discussed bike safety. She explained why the students should always wear helmets and protective gear. And Jacqlyn Bryant talked about pool safety. She got the young students engaged by asking them to share their own safety advice.
Hopefully, the third graders of Ponce de Leon Elementary learned a lot about staying safe and having fun! As one of the oldest personal injury firms in Clearwater, we have had so many opportunities to interact with the community. The Read and Play project is another way for us to give back to our supportive community.
Thanks for having us, Ponce de Leon Elementary! Enjoy your book, play outdoors, and stay safe this summer!
