Arrest the Frauds, But Remember the Legitimate Claims
Yesterday, Hillsborough County deputies issued warrants for 53 people accused of working one of the fastest growing scams in the area — personal injury fraud. We say, put all those faking accidents in jail! It’s not fair to those who are truly hurt and have to battle the insurance companies.
Detectives raided four clinics they say filed thousands of dollars in fraudulent insurance claims. They arrested clinic owners, massage therapists, crash participants and recruiters accused of setting everything up. Authorities say several physicians are under investigation.
Being injured in a car accident is bad enough. Having to battle your legitimate claim because others try to manipulate the system is not fair. After a car accident, it is important that you seek care with a reputable medical or chiropractic facility-they are out there, it just that the reputable ones never make the newspapers for the good they do to help people. Also, it is important to remember that even though there are staged accidents and fake medical claims, it does not mean that all people injured in car accidents are trying to get something for nothing. The legitimate claims never hit the papers so the general public never gets to appreciate the battles a legitimate injured person has to go through to get justice after a car accident.
So, arrest the bad guys who commit personal injury fraud but make sure it is clear that not all car accident victims are bad guys.
