New Port Richey Bicyclist Seriously Injured by Drunk Driver
A drunk driver from New Port Richey is accused of seriously injuring a bicyclist after hitting him with his car last night.
Russell Steven Smith was traveling on Marine Parkway at U.S. 19 in New Port Richey just before 11:45 p.m. when he struck a 19-year-old man from Holiday as the man bicycled in the crosswalk on the west side of U.S. 19, police said. The bicyclist was taken to Bayfront Medical Center, where he was in serious condition.
According to the St. Petersburg Times, police said Smith provided false information during the crash investigation. He was arrested and faces charges of driving under the influence, DUI with serious bodily harm, driving with a suspended, revoked or cancelled license, providing false information during a crash investigation and failure to surrender his suspended, revoked or cancelled driver’s license.
