2-car wreck claims life of Florida man
A Riverview man was recently killed in an accident in Brandon that injured one other and has prompted a police investigation. The fatal car accident occurred at the intersection of Falkenburg Road and Crescent Park Drive at around 9:20 a.m. and involved a Dodge pickup truck striking a four-door 2003 Pontiac. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department stated that the Dodge truck had a red light but ran through it at an approximate speed of 60 mph.
At the time of the car wreck, the 40-year-old driver of the Pontiac was headed north on Crescent Park Drive. He was in the process of turning right onto Falkenburg with a green light when the 36-year-old driver of the Dodge truck continued east on Falkenburg despite the red light and hit the Pontiac. Deputies said that the Pontiac driver died at the scene. The driver of the Dodge was taken for treatment of unspecified non-life-threatening injuries.
The status of charges against the Dodge driver was not released by police. It is unknown whether family of the deceased intend to pursue a wrongful death suit against the driver.
Whether or not police vigorously pursue charges against the negligent driver in this case, the family of the deceased man may have the option of contacting an attorney to initiate a wrongful death claim. The loss of a loved one results in significant pain and suffering from the grief alone, and it also entails a financial burden on the family. At the very least, family members generally pay funeral expenses and incur loss of income during the grieving period. They may also be required to pay their loved one’s medical expenses. A civil judgment obtained with the help of a skilled Florida personal injury lawyer may provide compensation for these costs.
