Pedestrian Seriously Injured After Getting Hit by Car on U.S. Hwy 19 in Clearwater
According to the Tampa Bay Times, a 38-year-old pedestrian was hit by a car at U.S. 19 and Drew Street in Clearwater a few hours ago. The accident occurred around 2 p.m. in the northbound turn lane under the U.S. 19 overpass by Drew Street. The pedestrian was transported to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg with life-threatening injuries, according to Clearwater police. Her name was not released.
With all the construction on U.S. Highway 19 in Clearwater, it is very important that all drivers watch out for pedestrians, especially at intersections. The intersection where this accident occurred is close to St. Petersburg College. Although there is no indication that the pedestrian was a college student, it is even more important for motorists to be on the lookout for pedestrians close to schools. Equally important is that pedestrians adhere to the traffic control devices and use crosswalks.
