Recall Roundup: December 2018

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! But with so much shopping, cooking, and cleaning that needs to be done, the holidays can be a stressful time, too. While dealing with last-minute complications and catastrophes, there is no way you have time to even think about product safety. But like always, we’re here to see you through — with our final Recall Roundup of 2018!

Unlike last month, when a massive lettuce recall happened right before Thanksgiving, December 2018 was not a particularly bad month for recalled food products. While concerns about E. coli tainted romaine lettuce still lingered, there were no widespread food recalls in December. Still, there are a few products that could bring illness or harm instead of holiday cheer:

If you buy any of these brands or products, check out the recall information before serving them during your holiday gathering.

Don’t forget about the pets at the holidays! A few brands of dog food were recalled in December 2018, including Abound and Columbia River Natural Pet Foods. The recall for two Abound products is the result of an elevated level of vitamin D, which can cause renal failure in dogs.

Along with festive snacks and family dinners, another big part of the holiday season is staying warm and cozy. But if you’re bundling up, avoid women’s scarves from Raj Imports, children’s hooded jackets from Meijer, and children’s robes from The Company Store. The scarf and robe have been recalled for not meeting flammability standards, while buttons on the hooded jacket pose a choking hazard for young children. And while it might not be a concern in Florida, anyone traveling toward snow should be aware that The Children’s Place has issued a recall for their infant snowsuit due to a choking hazard.

Planning to surprise a loved one with a new car or hoping for a motorcycle or RV as a holiday gift? Before you make that big purchase, read up on recent recalls from these brands:

There are so many different ways to celebrate this holiday season, but everyone can agree that a dangerous product is the last thing they want to think about during the holidays!   However, it’s important to be aware of dangerous products that could be lurking on your table or under the tree, so you can have a merry holiday and a safe start to 2019!

We’ll see you in 2019 for the next edition of Recall Roundup!
