Florida man involved in pedestrian fatality
A Florida man was killed while walking on the shoulder of the road by a driver who fled the scene after the incident. The fatal car accident took place on July 16th around 1:40 p.m. Witnesses stated that the man was hit by a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe while he was walking on the side of the road.
The driver, who was unnamed, left the scene of the accident. Witnesses stated that the at-fault driver stopped to check on the man, then later fled. The victim was transported to the Baptist Hospital in Pensacola Florida. He died four days later from injuries that he sustained in the pedestrian accident.
Authorities were later able to locate the driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe. He was arrested for causing the man’s death and for leaving the scene of the accident. If convicted of his charges, he will face a maximum of 30 years in prison. This was not the driver’s first hit-and-run charge. He has had two previous hit-and-run convictions as well as charges for driving while under the influence.
Pedestrian accidents like this one are often fatal. Even if the pedestrian is following strict safety procedures, they can still become a victim of a careless driver. The family of the deceased man may have a wrongful death claim against the driver. They can ask for compensation for monetary damages, such as medical bills and property damage, as well as for loss of future wages. An attorney who knows how to handle cases involving pedestrian accidents may be able to help the family seek compensation.
