As the saying goes “April showers bring May flowers,” and with a few days of heavy rain, April 2018 did not disappoint. But while the rain is necessary for beautiful growth, April also “showered” consumers with some inconvenient and dangerous products.
As you get ready to welcome in those May flowers, make sure you don’t have any of these dangerous products lurking around your home!
Salmonella and Listeria Strike Again
On the food side of things, listeria and salmonella both wreaked havoc across a wide variety of products. Listeria and salmonella are foodborne illnesses caused by bacteria. Listeria has symptoms like muscle aches, fever, and nausea. Salmonella, on the other hand, leads to weakness, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Both infections can cause serious complications for children, the elderly, and people with compromised immune systems. Listeria is particularly dangerous for pregnant women, as it can cause miscarriages, stillbirth, or premature delivery. For otherwise healthy people, infections like salmonella and listeria generally aren’t fatal, but are still not a pleasant experience.
In April 2018, some food products recalled over a listeria or salmonella risk include:
- Greenbelt Microgreens microgreen mix
- Budget Saver ice pops
- OC Raw Dog pet food
- NXTGEN kratom supplements
- Simply Superior smoked salmon spreads
- Formagerie de la Brie cheese
- TRUDOG pet food
- Herbal-Salvation kratom products
- Vital Essentials pet food
- Sunseed Vita Prima sugar glider formula
- Publix shell eggs
- Food Lion shell eggs
- K9 Natural pet food
- Explorateur cream cheese
Whether you’re an exotic pet owner, an organic shopper who loves herbal supplements, or simply just the average Publix fan, there is a chance you’ve come into contact with a potentially tainted product due to the high amounts of food recalls this month. If any of these brand names sound familiar, check your fridge and pantry and get rid of any recalled products.
Around the House
Though recalls over listeria and salmonella mostly dominated April 2018, there are still plenty of other products to look out for. Many other recalls dealt with home products, like:
- Briggs and Stratton surface cleaners, injury hazard from easily breakable pieces
- Primark decorative cushions, fire hazard
- Jo-Ann Stores light sets, laceration hazards from glass jars in set
- Mizco International power bank charging stations, fire and burn hazard
- 3M scotch thermal laminators, burn hazard
- Octane Fitness elliptical cross trainers, fall hazard
Whether it’s from food poisoning or a laceration, no one wants to start off the summer months with an injury from a defective product. Stay on top of recent recalls by tuning in next month for our latest installment on Recall Roundup!
