Pedestrian Hit and Killed in Florida
According to the Tampa Bay News, the Dalai Lama’s nephew was killed walking along State Highway A1A just 25 miles south of St. Augustine. Jigme K. Norbu was on a long trek to bring awareness to the Tibetan struggle for independence from China, officials said.
Keith R. O’Dell was driving the SUV with his 5 year old son. They were in the southbound lane when the auto accident happened. The Florida Highway Patrol report said Norbu, 45, was walking on the white line in the same direction as traffic.
Police released few other details about the auto accident. The SUV driven by 31-year-old Keith R. O’Dell of Palm Coast and his son were not injured and O’Dell was not charged.
According to the Florida Highway Safety Association, Florida reported the largest increase in fatal pedestrian accidents of any state in 2010. The safety of pedestrians is a shared responsibility between driver and pedestrian. We all need to pay more attention to the road.
