3-vehicle car accident in Palm Harbor injures 3
Car crashes happen every day, and many are small fender-benders where no one is injured. However, all too frequently car accidents can cause serious injury to the people involved, and often, the more vehicles involved in the accident, the more severe the injuries can be. Recently, a three-vehicle accident in Florida involving nine people resulted in injuries to three.
According to reports, the accident happened in front of Pelican Carwash in Palm Harbor. The crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. on May 14 in the southbound lanes of Tampa Road, also known as U.S. Highway 19. The crash was still under investigation at the time of the report, but it appears that one of the vehicles was traveling north and crossed the center line into the southbound lanes after the driver lost control of the vehicle. The first vehicle hit two cars in the southbound lanes.
Paramedics and Palm Harbor Fire Rescue were on the scene, and nine people total were checked out by medical personnel. Six refused treatment, one person was treated at the scene of the accident and two more were deemed severely injured enough to warrant being taken to the hospital. One of the two suffered nonlife-threatening injuries and was taken to Mease Countryside, while the other had life-threatening injuries and was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital. According to reports, the person could not be flown to the hospital because of the weather.
Traffic was stopped for close to an hour, and reports were not yet clear on what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle and cross the center line. Too often in these types of accidents, the driver was distracted or excessive speed paired with poor road conditions caused the car to go out of control. Those injured in auto accidents may be able to be awarded compensation through the civil courts if another party is found to be at fault.
