Our Financial Administrator Works For You
26 Jul 2007
To an outsider it may appear that the only task of the Perenich Carroll team of attorneys, legal assistants and other staff members is to seek the maximum settlement, verdict or award as compensation for injuries or deaths. However, there are other important tasks undertaken within Perenich Carroll for the benefit of each client. One of these tasks or, more correctly, one category of these tasks is in the area of accounting.
Every injured victim or survivor represented by Perenich Carroll is benefitted by the internal accounting practices of the firm. Since our founding in 1955, we have understood that the accounting function of our representation is of crucial importance to our clients. Therefore, Perenich Carroll has a strong Financial Administrator in Karen Mezer, a Certified Public Accountant with over 20 years of experience in personal injury matters who supervises a dedicated staff of bookkeepers and account managers.
Karen has worked to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to develop programs designed to ultimately produce the largest net financial recovery for each client from a settlement, verdict or award. She knows that all clients of Perenich Carroll benefit from a tight-fisted approach to the costs that are incurred during our representation. For example, Karen appreciates that $100 or $1,000 saved in the expenditures required to present a claim to a jury is important because it means greater compensation to the client.
The computer programs used by Perenich Carroll to monitor and report on the financial aspects of our cases have been created or modified by Karen Mezer to meet the unique requirements of injured victims and our personal injury practice. Karen's formulas and spreadsheets are being revised weekly to better protect the interests of our clients.
The final disbursement process, during which our clients receive a detailed accounting of all funds received, all costs expended, attorney fees, and any liens against a recovery, is supervised by Karen. She strives to make the process understandable, accurate, and beneficial to each client. To the extent possible, Karen wants to improve the net compensation received by the client, a goal shared by everyone at Perenich Carroll.
Karen has served as President of the Suncoast Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators. She also has delivered lectures on the subject of the financial controls within a law firm.
